uSagana
aquaculture Centre mainly produces fingerling of the warm water
fishes and the most common are Tilapia (oreochromis niloticus)
and the African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) in line with its
mission of availing adequate warm water fingerling.Tilapia fingerling
are produced through natural spawning in brood stock ponds while
catfish fingerling are produced through Artificial spawning and
sequential larval rearing in nursery ponds. Fingerling are parked
and transported in oxygenated bags.

by a farmer. SAC has also recently installed facilities in the hachery
which will make it possible to produce monosex tilapia (oreochromis
niloticus) fingerings. sSA
Tilapia (Oreochromis
noloticus) and the African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) are grown
in the production ponds and sold fresh or frozen at the farm kiosk. How
ever this is only done when excess fingerings are are not collected
by fish farmers or when when culture trials are conducted to test
growth performance under different situations.

unit
The
unit produces daily products that include milk which is all consumed
in the neighbourhood
Manure: The manure generated by the animals is
used in fertilization of the ponds to increase plankton productivity
in the fish ponds
|
Poultry
farming is intengrated with fish production. The chicken droppings
falling in the water enhances productivity. The feeds wasted
by chicken during pecking and scratching slips into the water
and some is eaten directly by the fish. The mature birds are
continuosly culled and sold either live or dressed.
|
At
SAC, sheep is integrated with fish production. The sheep is grazed
on the vegetation along the fish ponds dykes with the intention
of reducing the man power and fuel that can been used in slashing
or mowing it.The aged stock is occasitionary culled and sold.
