The
following activities are functional at SAC.
1. Seed production unit.
Tilapia fish seeds (fingerlings) are produced through natural
spawning in brood stock ponds. Artificial spawning and sequential
larval rearing in nursery ponds is practised to produce catfish
fingerlings.
2. Table – size fish production.
Excess fingerings are reared in the grow out ponds and sold fresh
or frozen in the farm gate Kiosk
3. Ornamental fish unit.
Goldfish and Koi Carps are the major ornamental fish propagated
and sold in the Center.
4. Information dissemination/ training unit.
SAC conducts short training courses for fish farmers, organized
groups and individuals on request. Occasionally field days are
organized for the public. About 4,000 individuals visit SAC annually
seeking information on fish farming.
5. Poultry and Zero grazing units.
Chicken and cows are reared to provide organic fertilizers to
the fishponds while sheep are kept to control over growing grass
and weeds along the fishponds dykes.
6. Research unit.
SAC officers and researchers from other institutions conduct research
at the Centre continuously.
7. Administrative unit:
Supports the various units of SAC to achieve their goals.
